St. Patty's Shenanigans

Monday, March 17, 2014

Chicago turned green again this weekend! My cousin came in from North Carolina to help us celebrate and can I just say, it's awesome having a family member that gets just as excited for dress up opportunities as I do. (Recognize the wig?) We donned our festive gear (plus coats - unfortunately, the weather wasn't as fabulous as this) but we did have some sunshine so the water looked extra festive and I was able to bust out my Patrick tee again so no complaints here. We started at the river and made our way north over the course of about eleven hours, with loads of green beer, dancing, and photo opps in between. All in all, a success.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

St. Patrick's Day Recap

Swayze Baby. How stoked was I to wear Patrick around all day??

The green loafers come out once per year.

Pizza with Patrick.

Well, another SPD has come and gone and I'm kind of sad about it (that tends to happen when dress-up/costume holiday's are over.) One might think that 12 hours of celebrating should be enough to last me until next year but to keep the fun going just a bit longer I thought I'd share some blog appropriate pictures of our very green day. The weather was amaaayzing - nearly 80 degrees, hence the river looked greener than ever. (Other than changing the colors of these photos to black and white I didn't alter the green at all, it really is that bright! If you've never see it check this out.) Sunshine and Saturday meant more pedestrians and bigger crowds than usual but the city handled it well by just closing down the busiest streets. (Don't ever say Chicago doesn't know how to celebrate!) And of course we consumed green beer and made a pizza pit stop. All in all I'd call that good times celebrating St. Patrick (Swazye) Day! Do you celebrate SPD in your city? I never did in Tennessee and I'm pretty sure it'll be a requirement for any future living locations.

P.S.  If you're wondering why I'm obsessed with Patrick Swazye, this will help fill you in. See all my Patrick love here.

Or St. Patrick Swayze Day as I'm now calling it.

Could there be a more perfect shirt for me? (You know I love my Patrick.) It's like the folks at Strange Cargo got in my head and granted an unknown wish! I truly squeal when I think about it's awesomeness and can't wait to rock this baby on Saturday. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend and a fabulous St. Patrick Swayze Day. Hope it include lots of green, here's a bit to get you started!

If you've never seen the Chicago River being dyed green you should check this out.

A fancy edition of going green.

The Gifts That Keep On Giving

Friday, January 28, 2011

It's been a little over a month since Christmas and I thought I'd share some gifts I'm still enjoying and thought you might, too.

I adore wearing this Tennessee necklace...
Home is literally where the heart is. Find yours at Truche.

While I haven't actually cracked these open yet, I'm excited all the same.

A wicked awesome spider bracelet from Mom is the perfect
mix of glam & goth.

An everyday tote, it means my little cabbage, a term of endearment in France.

Story People stories warm my heart. So sweet and true.

A CTA pillow makes our Chicago home complete.

North and South DVD Set - because I could always use more Patrick Swayze in my life. (1212 minutes more to be exact.)

Sweet Petula soaps - the most divine scents in the most
adorable packaging.

Any gifts you'd like to share?? I would love to know your loves!
Have a lovely weekend, I'm hoping to jump into North & South!

The Help

Monday, November 1, 2010

Have you read The Help? My Mom raved about it and ended up buying it for me last month. I was waiting to finish up another book before starting this one and after discussing it with some friends yesterday I got so excited to finally break into reading it. I finished a few chapters last night and have to say - I'm hooked! I get most of my book recommendations from friends, so I thought I'd ask, what are you reading these days??

P.S. I'm usually way behind the trend when it comes to books. I think it's because my 'must read' list keeps growing and my free time keeps shrinking! The only book I purchased on it's release date was 'The Time of My Life' and that was more about my Patrick Swayze obsession than reading :)

Happy Birthday Patrick Swayze

Wednesday, August 18, 2010

Today is Patrick's birthday and although he's no longer with us (*tears*) I'm still celebrating. Let's reminisce together, shall we? (This works better if you have "She's Like the Wind" playing in the background.)

If you can handle more tears, click through Patrick and Lisa's love story.

I highly recommend reading his book, 'The Time of My Life". Or better yet, listen to it on audiobook so you can hear his voice :) I must admit, I bought them both shortly after he passed and it took me months to finish only because I couldn't bear to get to the end. His strength and pure determination were amazing.

Next up - I want to devour the full series of North and South.

Happy Birthday in Heaven Patrick!!

What's your favorite Patrick memory?? Do tell!!

California, Knows How to Party

Monday, June 7, 2010

It feels great to be home because being gone for 2 weeks feels like forever but I love traveling so much it doesn't hit me until I actually get home again. Working in California last week was a nice change and spending the weekend in LA with my bestie was, well, the best. Fun times in Hollywood - I'm in love with the perfect temperature, sunshine and palm trees. Of course the highlight was having my picture taken on Patrick Swayze's star on the Walk of Fame. Oh how I love him... Can't wait to show you the pic when I get all settled!

Yay for catching up on blogs - I missed you guys!

Isn't this reverse view of the Hollywood sign clever? Check out more great Hollywood sign captures here.

Back to regular posting tomorrow - yippee!

Dirty Dancing Design

My heart just skipped a beat! Came across this post from a few months ago and am so moved! Design*Sponge runs a series called "Living In" which features a movie and related products including clothing, furniture, and accessories. They're all fabulous, but this one is tugging at my heart. It's my favorite movie of.all.time. and it's been 7 months since we lost Patrick :( Look how strong he is in the photo below.
