Watercolor Fashion Illustration

Monday, January 24, 2011

You might have spotted the work of Cate Parr in the February issue of Lucky and if so, did you fall madly in love with it like I did??
Always an admirer of fashion illustration, these are exceptionally beautiful. The watercolor lends a dreamy vibe while the details (hearts in hair!) put a fresh spin on the outfit inspiration. I imagine a collection of several in my future fabulous office!

Antique Plate Cake Stands

Wednesday, September 29, 2010

Once in a while I come across something so lovely that I burst with joy to share it with you and can't type fast enough to get it posted. Finding this darling Etsy shop gave me that feeling...Maybe because I'm still recovering from Mom time earlier this month, or maybe because a touch of vintage makes my heart smile. These southern made cake stands are created out of antique plates and crystal candle holders by Olivia and her mom. If that doesn't make your heart smile...

Of course it's beautiful for cakes but since I rarely bake I'm thinking of lovely alternative uses such as a jewelry catchall on the dresser, a perfume tray on the armroire or a plant stand on the side table. Can't you just see a vase of peonies perched atop?

mon petit chou

Monday, September 13, 2010

This little bag is making me miss my Mom. After 9 days of girl time it's back to the grind today and what do I stumble upon but this...She's called me 'mon petit chou' ever since I took French 12 years ago. It means my little cabbage and is a term of endearment in France. Isn't it just the sweetest?

Modern Portraits

Monday, May 10, 2010

Remember in the olden days when families would pose for huge painted portraits on canvas to hang above the mantel? Well this is nothing like that.

Illustrator Nan Lawson creates adorable family (or friend) portraits using your photos and a little personal info. It's custom, it's cute and it's cheap - $40 gets you an 8x10 print as well as a digital version to use wherever you'd like.

How seriously neat is that? I totally want one with the hubby and little black kitties :)

Check out her site for more information.

Hair portraits

Monday, May 3, 2010

Maria Gil Ulldemolins illustrates the back of hairstyles and each illustration has a story. Read them on her Etsy shop, Nosideup.

Aren't they awesome?!
I'm inspired to try a new look!

Missed Connections

Wednesday, April 14, 2010

The concept behind 'Missed Connections' is so romantic.
Sophie Blackall illustrates the stories of small encounters with strangers, isn't this one fantastic?

Love Garden

Monday, April 12, 2010

Isn't this colorful print fantastically fun?

I wish I could remember how I stumbled on Helen's blog, such a happy place! The 'Love Garden' print above is available in her Etsy Shop: Orange Studio, I love them all!

Lovebirds + Links

Monday, March 29, 2010

So I'm on Etsy, browsing for a gift when something catches my eye...

Finding this pretty tea towel

led me to the designers blog

which transported me to an Australian wedding blog

Where I found what could arguably be the cutest cake ever:

Homemade by Mother of the Bride and topped with custom fabric birds.
How precious!! I need to hug it (without ruining it of course)
See more of the fabulous wedding details here. I insist!

Handmade Rosette Pillows & Felt Love

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

I'm not usually a fan of the color orange but this felt pillow project is changing my mind.

photos via Etsy storque

If I were craftier (and had more time on my hands) I would buy this book and do fun projects like this on rainy days.

More contemporary felt items:

I've been craving a living room update and this would do the trick. Loving the neutrals and the ruffles would soften up our contemporary couch.
