Last week the hubby gifted me with a Kindle. I really appreciated the gesture but have to admit, at first I was a little perplexed...no more new books with the fresh scent of ink, and crisp, perfect pages? I've held off on the e-reading this far, am I really missing out? Then came the what to read dilemma...when the world's at your fingertips what do you choose? I searched the popular section and The Hunger Games caught my eye. Everyone seemed obsessed with it over the last year, might as well give it a shot. What I'd heard about it didn't appeal to me in the least, my only curiosity was to see what the fuss was about. Besides, I was even into the soundtrack over summer, although I'd never seen the movie either. Fast forward a few days: Hunger Games book one complete, movie rented and watched (and loved!), twenty percent into book two.

Suffice it to say, I'm usually late to the book club meeting and I'm ok with that. The movie's usually out by the time I catch up so it's nice to make a quick comparison. (I'm kind of nutso about making myself read the book first.) And while I never thought I'd say it, the Kindle is the greatest thing on earth. How else would I have immediately moved on to Catching Fire without a trip to the bookstore, or a weeks wait from Amazon? Within a few chapters, I had completely forgotten about it. And as for missing a real book, turns out the only thing I'll miss is cute, theme-y little bookmarks.

Hi, my name is Ashleigh. I'm a Hunger Games fanatic, and a Kindle lover. Let's be friends.

So, whatcha reading these days? I'm going to need something to look forward to after I finish this trilogy, which, at this rate, could by next week... Throw out some rec's!

P.S. Do you read on a tablet or Kindle? How do you feel about it?

P.P.S. Did you read The Hunger Games Trilogy? Don't spoil it, but tell me if you loved it. Or not, I guess. I'll try not to judge. ;)

P.P.P.S. I totally want this shirt.

  1. I am with you! I wasn't sure I'd enjoy a Kindle, and then my husband was gifted two of them last Christmas, so I got his 'hand me down'... and I love it! Also loved The Hunger Games series ~ Cinna is my hero :)

  2. Couldn't agree more with your feelings on the Kindle! I was hesitant at first, but it's so great for traveling and digging into a series!

  3. I haven't seen the movie, hear so much about the books as well. My hubby wants to watch it. Hmm, maybe on our Friday movie night :)

  5. REALLY? I read a little bit of a book on my iPad, but one of my gf's SWEARS by her Kindle and she's an avid reader. I might put one on my list...but what about the smell of the pages? I don't know if I can give it up!

But I do LOVE books. Only saw The Hunger Games. Should I read it, too?

And if you haven't read it, try She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb. One of my favorite books of all time.

    1. Thanks, C! I'll add that to my list.
I think you should give the HG books a shot. The thing I like about Kindle versus reading on an iPad or tablet, is a. the page turn buttons on the side, and b. I have the super simple kindle so I can't be distracted to play online or with apps instead! ;)

  6. Love this- I was totally like you, books seem so precious! Felt wrong. But my BF has a Kindle and so for our flight, he agreed to load up a book for me. I tried it out and oh my... it's really amazing. It's so easy, so compact - though I still feel kind of bad about it :( Oh well- I haven't purchased one myself (yet).

yes, I read Hunger Games before the movie. I thought it was a page turner for sure. I think everyone was really excited to see a capable Katniss after Bella's reliance on Edward and Jacob for everything. haha.

    1. Haha true. It's funny how we can sometimes feel guilty about things, as if books have real feelings that would be hurt. I totally do the same thing!!

  7. I have a kindle and love it. I was like you and a little skeptical at first but now I don't want to get a real book because I can throw my kindle in my purse and have it with me anywhere. I also love the instant gratification of deciding I want to read something and immediately having it.

I loved the Hunger Games trilogy. If you like the supernatural i.e. vampires, witches, etc. the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness is really good. Sadly book three isn't out yet (which is killing me!) but books 1 and 2, A Discovery of Witches and Shadow of Night are excellent.

    1. Thanks for the recommendations! I'll check it out. Supernaturals aren't my usual picks but maybe I'm on a new path now!

    2. The Divergent series is also really good and has a lot of similarities to the Hunger Games series. Only the first 2 books are out right now (Divergent and Insurgent) but they are definitely good reads.

  8. I have a Kindle, and I must admit I rarely use it. I guess I still haven't gotten used to it, even though I've had it for a while. It's just not the same as real books, somehow. But I really should give it another try!

  9. I picked up first book for some light reading for a flight, and I didn't put it down and completely devoured books two and three. I looooooved the trilogy. I put off reading these because they didn't seem like my typical read, but I'm so glad I decided to give it a try.
