The Help

Have you read The Help? My Mom raved about it and ended up buying it for me last month. I was waiting to finish up another book before starting this one and after discussing it with some friends yesterday I got so excited to finally break into reading it. I finished a few chapters last night and have to say - I'm hooked! I get most of my book recommendations from friends, so I thought I'd ask, what are you reading these days??

P.S. I'm usually way behind the trend when it comes to books. I think it's because my 'must read' list keeps growing and my free time keeps shrinking! The only book I purchased on it's release date was 'The Time of My Life' and that was more about my Patrick Swayze obsession than reading :)

  2. Love this book!! I read it over the summer and couldn't put it down. I think you will really like it. I just read "Castaways" by Elin Hilderbrand, I really like her books.

  3. I haven't read this one yet either, although absolutely everyone has raved about it so it has been on my list for a while (like yours, my list is very long, I'm not sure I'll ever get to the end). Right now I am reading the biography of Justice Louis Brandeis. Totally fascinating.

  4. Yes, I read this in the Spring and it is one of my favorite books! Did you know the movie is coming out soon? I'm so excited!

I love reading biographies. I just finished one on Lady Gaga which was interesting and I'm picking up Jane Fonda's today. (I saw her on Oprah last week and thought her life seemed interesting!)

    Enjoy your read!

  5. Hip hip - I hadn't heard about the movie, that's exciting! I always like to read the book before seeing the movie, otherwise I know I'll never go back & read it ;)

Marie - I love biographies too! Heard about Jane's from a magazine last week, does sound interesting!!

  8. Oh, I've been hearing such good things about this one! I've been waiting for the paperback release, but I don't think it's come out yet? I haven't had the chance to get much reading done lately and I quite miss it. I won a book in a giveaway on Goodreads.com recently so that's my read of the moment - it's about Parisian interior design in the late 18th, early 19th century. (:

  10. you should definitely read "something borrowed" and then "something blue" both by Emily Giffin in that order.

  11. Haven't read it yet but it sounds like I should :)
At the moment I am reading another cheesy vampire novel, not at all worthy of a literature price but very exiting!

  12. okay i just remembered the book i wanted to mention. it's called "the creative habit" by twyla thwarp. it's basically a self-help book for the creatively challenged and is so much fun to read! there's even little "practice tests" to help you learn about your own "creative dna."

  14. I have heard so much about this book and I just saw it yesterday in the store! I was going to pick it up, but picked up two other ones instead. I'm a romance and historical nut as well as fantasy lover. So I'm just starting to read Mary Balough's A Christmas Promise. :)

  15. "The Help" is one of the best novels published in the U.S. in the past 5 years, for sure. I was lucky enough to get it on paperback (it's available here in Mexico before it is in the States). I finished it in 3-4 days tops. It's a masterpiece! You will love it :))
